Lyman Conservatory - Smith College
The renovation and expansion of Smith’s historic collection of Lord and Burnham greenhouses and their Victorian headhouse required careful coordination to minimize impacts to both the Olmsted campus landscape and to the adjacent systematics garden.  The resultant design largely required underground building with a sensitively articulated addition to the headhouse that relied on landscape elements including a pergola and significant plantings to make its potentially competing presence respectfully subservient.
Towers|Golde, as campus landscape architects, was instrumental in the coordination of these efforts and influential in the development of the design.
