Fellows Residence Hall, Center for Development Economics, Williams College
T|G worked closely with the architects on the siting of this 2-story, 30-bed residence hall. Positioned to respond to the CDE building form, the placement of the residence hall defines the courtyard space, which serves as the hub for social activity and connecting link between the students’ residential and academic activities. Further enhanced with ample seating along the south-facing CDE porch, mounded lawn invites students to relax in the landscape, and carefully placed flowering trees softens building edges and defines gateways into the space. This courtyard provides students a space for both retreat and engagement. Beyond the courtyard, the reconfigured site circulation and stormwater system were designed with sensitivity to preserve the historical nature of the Williamstown town green district with its expansive lawns, large shade trees and open vistas.
