Shavaun Towers, PLA, FASLA

DESIGN COUNSEL

Shavaun practices landscape architecture as a responsive art. Her extraordinary sensitivity to the character and opportunities of each specific site, her deep understanding of architectural aesthetic and historical style, her dedication to the principles of sustainability, and her empathy with client aspiration all frame her analysis of each design challenge and inspire her vision for its unique resolution. She is also practical, flexible and collaborative. She creates special spaces of apparently effortless elegance that meld the built and the natural, the historical and the contemporary to create opportunities for the experience of places enriched by personal, cultural and ecological connections.

She is adept at manipulating a range of scales; as an experienced master planner, Shavaun is especially attuned to the issues of physical identity, institutional, corporate or municipal character, and the need for landscape cohesion. At a smaller scale, her many acclaimed site-specific designs demonstrate her exceptional skill at realizing the maximum aesthetic, environmental and social potentials of these projects as she successfully integrates their design within the fabric of their context. Shavaun’s work has focused on institutional, corporate and urban design projects. Institutional work includes academic, healthcare and cultural facilities as well as arboreta and heritage properties.

Shavaun earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Smith College and a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley. She was elected a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects in 1998 in recognition of the national importance of her design work. Her work has been frequently published and the recipient of numerous state and regional awards. She is a licensed landscape architect in Connecticut, Louisiana,
New Jersey and New York.
