Songdo International Business District

Songdo International Business District is a new Smart City on 1500 acres near the new Seoul Airport. After master planning the open spaces and the major steetscapes of the city, Towers|Golde proceeded to design the sites of its first residential community (residential towers to house 7000 residents on a 27 acre superblock all on roof deck above below-grade garage), its convention center (over 580,000sf), and its Central Park (120 acres of manipulated terrain, centered on a new canal).

T|G incorporated cultural references to traditional Korean palace and garden design to form dynamic hierarchies of varied spatial experiences throughout the open spaces of each project. Korean garden typologies and elements, most especially water, were reinterpreted and provide contextual meaning to each landscapes.
