Connecticut Preservation Awards 2020

Towers|Golde is pleased to be recognized by this Preservation Connecticut Award (formerly the CT Trust) for our contributions to “Statewide: Resiliency Planning for Preservation”, a new comprehensive planning approach to incorporate historic preservation into disaster recovery by the State Historic Preservation Office. Towers|Golde joined SHPO, R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates and several other consultants to evaluate and document cultural resources at risk in shoreline counties, including landscapes.

T|G contributed to the nominations to the National Register of Historic Places of three historic cemeteries: Connecticut Valley Hospital in Middletown, Cypress Cemetery in Old Saybrook and Evergreen Cemetery in Stonington. T|G also helped nominate the Milford Green to the State Register of Historic Places. The work included research, documentation and interpretation and in the case of Milford Green, a narrative report. This recognition promotes the visibility of these cultural resources and qualifies them for certain potential aid in the face of future environmental threats.

Statewide: Resiliency Planning for Preservation

The devastation wrought by Hurricane Sandy underscored the need to incorporate historic preservation in resilience planning and disaster recovery. Connecticut’s State Historic Preservation Office has created a comprehensive approach to preservation planning amid climate change along with planning tools to carry that out. Now, Connecticut is better able to protect its irreplaceable historic resources amid environmental threats. Project team: R. Christopher Goodwin & Associates, Inc.; Connecticut State Historic Preservation Office; Dewberry; Milone and MacBroom; Towers | Golde, LLC; Ocean Surveys, Inc.; Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center; University of Rhode Island Graduate School of Oceanography
