Saybrook College, Yale Residential Colleges

When the 1920s Memorial Quadrangle was remodeled by Architect James Gamble Rogers in the style of the Gothic structures of Oxford University, it became the prototype for much of the subsequent development of Yale’s undergraduate campus. As Landscape Architects, Towers|Golde has played a key role in transforming this iconic complex into a residential community for the 21st century.
Principal site features include new outdoor dining terraces, exterior social spaces in six distinct courtyards for both active and passive uses, as well as semi-private gardens for the College Masters’ residences. Close collaboration with the entire design team was required to ensure that both building and site renovations respected the design integrity of the original site design by Beatrix Farrand.
