Peter Jay Sharp Parking Garage, New York Botanical Garden

This new intermodal facility on a contaminated brownfield site now offers Garden visitors, commuters and area residents secure parking for over 800 cars, bicycle storage, electric car charging stations and  a pod of Zipcars. The facility provides a direct connection to the Metro-North station as well access to a new Garden pedestrian entry (also by T|G). The building is clad with vertical gardens, native flowering vines on Greenscreen panels between the upright structural members and a raised planter at the station platform displays specimen plants representative of the Garden’s collections. Streetscape treatments represent best horticultural practices for urban plantings. In a separate but related project, T|G redesigned the station's old parking lot into a green arrival space that extends the aesthetic of the abutting parkland.
