Yale’s recent campus expansion with community facilities and a proposed residential complex was predicated on an agreement with the City for improved utility infrastructure and both vehicular and pedestrian upgrades. Working with the University and the City, Towers|Golde conceived and coordinated a phased implementation which addressed increased traffic, the impacts of construction, improved safety, security and accessibility, as well as aesthetic and horticultural improvement around the perimeter of the National Historic Landmark Grove Street Cemetery with its distinctive brownstone wall. Materials detailing, new lighting, and plant selections were all sensitive to the broader historical context while also addressing issues of campus identity.
