Towers|Golde assisted the Peabody Museum in the development of an outdoor display of living fossils, a complement to their famous fossil and dinosaur collections as well as their entry’s iconic Dawn Redwood, grown from seed collected when the plant was rediscovered in China in the 1940’s. New plant materials, including ginkgo, magnolia and ferns, all dating from the Cretaceous period, were artfully ranged along a new walk connecting the parking/bus drop-off and the front door. Casts of the Peabody’s world renowned fossil cycads were incorporated as substitutes for the non-hardy species living today. Paving was selected to mimic the cracked red mud flats era and dinosaur footprints, cast from the collection, were incorporated into the pathways to lead children to the gathering plaza at the base of a towering Torosaurus.
