The final element in Yale-New Haven’s planned
development of its core block, this 14-story center consolidates and expands the many
oncological functions which were previously scattered throughout the Yale-New Haven Hospital
complex. It also links to adjacent parking structures and the Children’s Hospital via
pedestrian bridges. Landscape elements designed by Towers|Golde include an arrival plaza,
richly-detailed streetscape and a large, seventh level roof-top healing garden.
Towers|Golde’s 30+ year relationship with YNHH includes the 1989 design of the
Children’s Hospital and planning and renovation of the entire complex in the early ‘90s.
The current effort also involves site planning and documentation for zoning applications
affecting a several block area with parking structures, retail development and pedestrian
and vehicular circulation. Detailed design issues include site lighting, signage and the
sustainability concerns related to LEED certification.
